What's Your Passion...

Passion a seven letter word  meaning an intense desire or enthusiasm for something.

As children we all have passions. They start out disguised as day dreams when were little and then something happens...we turn into teenagers and the word "CAN'T" manages to creep into our vocabulary.

I've never understood the word CAN'T. If you're passionate about a new hobby or adventure and it doesn't work out...guess what...you have what's call a "do over" button just like the video games we all play. "Do overs" are awesome because you keep doing it over until you find your niche. The phrase "keep moving forward" comes to mind.

I have many passions and am so fortunate my parents support all my crazy ideas. Every once in a while they have that deer in the headlight look when I'm telling them about some crazy idea I want to try out. I have to remind them of all the episodes of dancing with air guitars to their fabulous 70s & 80s music which typically gets me the go ahead and do it nod. Yes, my DAD is a super awesome dude!

So what are my passions?

I passionate about sketching, designing, and sewing clothes. I'm passionate about making jewelry and baking!

I'm passionate about playing the violin. Imagine my passionate filled practice sessions in the 3rd grade. My parents always had that kind of pained expression, you know the one with the deranged smile, reassuring me that I sounded AWESOME!

I'm passionate about hunting...I will refrain from posting any pictures. Let just say this is the Aunt Natalie clause, "Never show pictures of your first kill of the season". Love her to death but surely don't want to traumatize her.

I'm passionate about my friends...not so passionate about the girl drama! What is it with DRAMA. Don't get it never will. Life is too short for drama!
I'm passionate about my family! They are such an eclectic group. Most would deem them certifiable but they're mine...all mine...and I wouldn't trade them for all the money in the world!

May your Saturday be filled with passionate friends, family, hobbies, a few do overs, AND keep moving forward ;)!!!

Adventures with Baby Puppy...

Hello, my name is Sunita, aka "Baby Puppy". Uncle Henry and mommy are away on this beautiful Saturday morning...lazy lounging make way for Baby Puppy! Grandpa is the best lounging buddy ever...until the lady who visits on the weekends makes an appearance. She's always telling me her name...it's "Get off the Couch"! Hot digitty dog she sure loves telling me her name. Annoying right?

So "Get off the Couch" tells Grandpa we're going on an adventure. Guess which awesome  dog gets to tag along? Me!!! I'm intrigued and I'm thinking this should be good because "Get off the Couch" is always going on adventures in her car.

Paparazzi is here...photo opp...I'm ready for my close up! See this is me intrigued..."Get off the Couch" seems really excited. Grandpa and her are having a pretty in depth conversation about collars...I think we're heading to a jewelry store to buy "Get off the Couch" a collar.

What the?!? Okay...this is NOT a jewelry store!

"Get off the Couch" is talking about a jacuzzi. I'm excited this jacuzzi thing should keep "Get off the Couch" out of my hair while I mark my territory in this fine establishment. HEY!!! I'm not amused this jacuzzi thing is not for people!

{$&@^€*%!} ain't gonna be jacuzzing no 4 legged creatures! Me being the 4 legged creature!

Really...Who would have thought "hook a pup up please" meant hooking a pup up and not on a blind date!

Grandpa...when does "Get off the Couch" leave? Adventure...I think not!

Hey check out my new collar! I do believe this traumatic adventure is almost over.

Home sweet home...reward time!

Yummy yummy yummy....thanks Grandpa! I reckon "Get off the Couch" isn't so bad either.

Wishing you an adventurous Saturday with no jacuzzi...a little lounging...and certainly no "Get off the Couch"!

Traditions...

One of my favorite traditions and memories handed down from my Grandmother was baking sugar cookies at Christmas time. The whole house had the sweetest smells coming from her kitchen. Whenever I smell Grandma's sugar cookies it takes me back to the moments I spent in her kitchen and all the great times I had baking with her.

For Galentine's day I thought what a great way to keep up Grandma's tradition by beginning a new one. Sugar cookie fries with a side of icing for dipping.

With my Aunt Jackie's help making the dough... I was able to make some yummy fries!

The recipe for sugar cookies is:

  1. 3/4 cup shortening
  2. 1 cup of sugar
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 tsp of vanilla
  5. 2 1/2 cups of flour
  6. 1 tsp of baking powder
  7. 1 tsp of salt
Mix the first four ingredients together, then add flour, baking powder, and salt. Wrap dough in wax paper and chill for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. To roll dough, sprinkle rolling surface and rolling pin with flour, and roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 6-7 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cookies.

The icing recipe:
  1. 1 1/2  cup of confectioners sugar
  2. 3 tbsp of butter softened
  3. 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  4. 1 tbsp of milk
Combine all and mix until smooth. Add in desired food coloring and ice cookies.

Wishing you a Saturday full of old and new traditions!
