Traditions...

One of my favorite traditions and memories handed down from my Grandmother was baking sugar cookies at Christmas time. The whole house had the sweetest smells coming from her kitchen. Whenever I smell Grandma's sugar cookies it takes me back to the moments I spent in her kitchen and all the great times I had baking with her.

For Galentine's day I thought what a great way to keep up Grandma's tradition by beginning a new one. Sugar cookie fries with a side of icing for dipping.

With my Aunt Jackie's help making the dough... I was able to make some yummy fries!

The recipe for sugar cookies is:

  1. 3/4 cup shortening
  2. 1 cup of sugar
  3. 2 eggs
  4. 1/2 tsp of vanilla
  5. 2 1/2 cups of flour
  6. 1 tsp of baking powder
  7. 1 tsp of salt
Mix the first four ingredients together, then add flour, baking powder, and salt. Wrap dough in wax paper and chill for 30 minutes. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. To roll dough, sprinkle rolling surface and rolling pin with flour, and roll to 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut out shapes and place on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake for 6-7 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cookies.

The icing recipe:
  1. 1 1/2  cup of confectioners sugar
  2. 3 tbsp of butter softened
  3. 1 tsp of vanilla extract
  4. 1 tbsp of milk
Combine all and mix until smooth. Add in desired food coloring and ice cookies.

Wishing you a Saturday full of old and new traditions!
